Seizure Disorder

On January 15th, my neurologist had me begin to wean off Tegretol, a medication for seizures. Tegretol is really risky to take during pregnancy, so I needed to know if really had to be on it. I do. I had a seizure on Tuesday. It was so scary, and I am still recovering emotionally from the whole ordeal. Yuck! At least my questions were answered. I’m not taking this medication unnecessarily. I think the baby is ok- no bleeding or cramping. I see the OB in two weeks, so I’ll have more answers about the baby at that time. I’m just trying to deal with my anxiety- I’m sure that isn’t good for the baby. I can’t believe I feel like a “bad mom” already!

Question- I recently found out I’m pregnant (only 7 weeks) and am taking three meds for seizures. I wanted to drop one that has a warning for those who are pregnant but my neuro told me that all in all, taking all these meds only adds an extra 1% to chances of miscarriage etc. The obgyn is also making me go to a high risk doctor because of my medical history (Take note, I’m not proud but I haven’t been that loyal to my meds yet still haven’t had a seizure for over a year. That’s why I’m confident that dropping one med that is at a low level to begin with and still be fine). All this makes me a bit nervous and I haven’t run across anyone else with epilepsy who is pregnant. Just curious as to what you were told or if you were sent to a high risk merely because of your medical history?
