I made it to my due date.  No baby in sight.  My visit went well.  I had the same OB as last time.  Everything seems to be good, and I will probably give birth this week.  If not, they set up an appointment for me to be induced next Tuesday.  I don’t want to be induced, so I’m hoping this LO makes an appearance this week.  I was really uncomfortable this past weekend, but I’ve been feeling better the past few days.  The baby is doing well.  Moving and has a good heartbeat.  I’m swelling and uncomfortable.  I’ve been having cramping the past few days, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.  We timed a few of the last night, but then they stopped.  Such a tease!  I’ve been having trouble peeing myself!!!  The OB said it’s from the baby’s head being so low.  He did a litmus test to make sure it wasn’t amniotic fluid- Ouch!  That test hurt!  It made the internal exam feel like nothing!  HypnoBabies has a script for “Baby Come Out.”  I’ve been listening to it, and I’m hoping this LO get her eviction notice!

Ouch!  First internal exam.  It was not the most comfortable exam I’ve ever had, but at least it was quick.  I’m softening, so that’s good.  Otherwise, there isn’t much to report.  The fetal non-stress test is fine.  The baby was about 7 lbs. at my last ultrasound!  I’m hoping they were a few oz. off.  I still have a week to go until my due date.  Not much is going on.  I have a few contractions here or there.  I’ve gain 60 lbs., and I’m trying to not let that get me down.  I had every intention of only gaining 30 lbs, but here I am at twice that!  Yikes!  The OB’s seem fine with it, so I’m trying to just keep moving…  I’m swelling and retaining water like it’s my job.  I live in my compression stocking and carpal tunnel braces.  I don’t have much feeling in my finger.  I’m tired, but ready to meet my LO.  Everything is checked off my “To Do” List with the wonderful help of DH.  Just waiting…

DH and I had fun this weekend doing a belly cast.  It was messy, but lots of fun.  DH thought it was cool, so that made it a really great memory.  I just did the belly, and my plan is to take a picture of my LO in the belly.  I’m hoping it’ll be as neat as it looks in my mind!

Off to the doctor again this morning.  They did the non-stress test to track her movement, heart rate, and contractions.  The nurse found the heartbeat right away, so that was nice.  I hate waiting while the nurse fumbles around trying to find her heartbeat.  All is well with the baby.  The doctor took forever to get to me, so it felt like I was testing forever!  I got there at 8am, and I didn’t leave until 9:15 am.  I saw the doctor for maybe 15 minutes.  Everything seems to be going well.  She didn’t have the report from the ultrasound, so I’m assuming we’ll discuss that next week.  I asked if it was ok to get a flu shot, and she said yes.  My employer is starting to give them starting today.  I got one this afternoon.  I guess I’ll get the swine flu shot later in October if necessary.  The OB said they would do an internal exam next week.  Fun!

I keep checking for the mucus plug to fall out.  No luck yet.  I have contractions sometimes, but nothing serious.  Otherwise, I don’t think this LO is going to make an appearance any time soon.  She might end up being an October baby!  That’s ok- I feel like I have so much to do.  I’m just getting frustrated with all this water retention.  I have no feeling in my fingers!!!!  Carpal tunnel syndrome is no fun!  I’m also running out of maternity clothes that actually cover my belly.  Thankfully the weather is getting cooler.  It’s so hard to wait for something when you have no idea when it’s going to happen!

Baby Shower

I had the most wonderful baby shower yesterday.  My MIL threw me a shower at a tea house.  She threw me a bridal shower there when I was getting married.  It was great, so I was happy to have another opportunity to have a party there again.  I hadn’t seen many of my friends a long time, so it made me so happy to see them again.  Showers are usually overwhelming for me.  The pressure of everyone watching me open gifts is stressful for me.  We had tea and a light lunch.  We played a few baby shower games.  I received many outfits for my LO.  She is going to be quite the fashionista!  I’m pretty sure she will be better dressed than her Mommy!!  I really enjoyed my shower.  It was nice and small- about 9 of us total.  What I really enjoyed was seeing my friends.  I’m glad I had that chance before the baby makes her appearance!

I am 38 weeks today!  I’ve only 2 wks until my due date- so the baby could be here at any time.  I basically done, but the urge to nest is unreal!  I’ve been washing baby clothes all week!  My list of things to do is short- clean the house.  I know this isn’t going to happen because I am huge, retaining water, and exhausted.  I bought a roomba, so at least the dog hair is taken care of!  I feel ready, but I’ve never done this… so I won’t know if I’m ready until later!  I’m looking forward to meeting my daughter.  Sometimes I am a little scared, but basically, I feel optimistic about the change that is going to happen soon.  I am looking forward to losing some of this water!  My hands are useless at times because of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Sixth and Final Ultrasound!

I had my last ultrasound today.  I’m not sure how I feel about Maternal Fetal Medicine.  First they were concerned about the baby having a large belly.  At the last u/s they decided the belly was fine, but they were worried about having too much amniotic fluid.  Today, the amniotic fluid was fine, but they were worried about the belly again.  The belly was in the 95 percentile.  They said they are usually concerned about the ratio between the head and belly.  They don’t like the belly to be larger than the head because there is a risk for shoulder dystocia.  The ratio for my baby is fine, but the belly is measuring large.  I’m not sure they have a good measurement.  The tech was having a lot of difficulty getting measurements of things because of the way the baby was positioned and the lack of room to move.  She took too different pictures of the belly because she couldn’t get a really good one.  She said the doctor would take an average of the two.  Part of me is concerned and a little scared of shoulder dystocia, but the other part of me knows that this really doesn’t mean anything.  These measurements aren’t exact.  The belly was fine at the last u/s, and now the level of amniotic fluid is fine.  I think the baby is fine… they might be trying to covering their ass… and their business is to look for problems.  At least they don’t want to see me back, which isn’t a surprise since I’m 37 weeks!  I’m feeling a little tired, and I’m fighting a cold- yuck!  I’m hoping to get some rest and feel better soon.  This last month of pregnancy has been rough so far!!!!

Eleventh Prenatal Visit

I had another prenatal test.  The non-stress tests are getting boring.  I still have a few more to go until this LO decides to be born!  My daughter really doesn’t like the test.  She stops moving whenever they strap the doppler on me!  They gave me some juice to get her moving.  It didn’t really help- she just doesn’t like it!  It takes the nurse forever to get her heartbeat, and once she does, the baby moves away just as the nurse attempts to leave the room!  DH was able to come today.  I was happy to have the company while I pushed the buzzer when she kicked.  He loved how she kept messing around with the nurse!  It’s adorable to see him excited or loving with the baby.

I met a new doctor today.  She was great.  She actually asked me if I had any questions!  Most of the doctors try to rush me out while I scramble to get my questions answered.  She knew a little about hypnobirthing.  I didn’t tell her I was doing hypnobabies since the two are so similar.  She felt the office that kept recommending these ultrasounds was being ridiculous, which made me feel better since it seemed like every time I went there they found something else for me to worry about!  There isn’t much I can do about the carpal tunnel- except have the baby.  I don’t have any of the early signs of labor, so I’m thinking I’ll be in this for the long haul!

Tenth Prenatal Visit

Today I had my 10th prenatal visit.  I can’t believe how much time I’ve spent in the doctor’s office this year!  I had a busy week this week.  I’ve had some trouble with swelling in my legs and hands.  My DH went out to get me some compression stockings.  That seems to help my legs feel better after work.  Two nights ago I started having pain and numbness in my hands and fingers.  It hurt so much that I had trouble sleeping!  My hands went numb when I slept on my sides.  I can’t sleep on my stomach, and sleeping on your back is a big “no-no.”  I tried to sleep reclined a bit, but it just didn’t work for me.  DH went out and got me hand braces for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  It seems to really help.  I really feel sexy now- 50 lbs overweight with grandma compression stockings and hand braces.  Fantastic!  My DH says it’s like I’m going into battle for the last month of pregnancy.

I can’t believe I’ve been pregnancy for 36 weeks.  The time has really gone by fast.  This doctor appointment was pretty simple.  They hooked me up to the non-stress test monitor, and turned it on once they finally found the heartbeat.  The baby wasn’t moving much, but they got enough information.  My Group B Strep test came back negative, so I was happy to hear that.  Everything seems to be going well.  My next appointment is next week, and I also have my next u/s.  I can’t believe 3 weeks went by so fast.

Ninth Prenatal Visit

During this prenatal visit, it took forever for the nurse to find the heartbeat.  Luckily, I was feeling her move, so I wasn’t concerned…  But, you can’t help be feel nervous when they don’t find the heartbeat immediately!  In the end, everything worked out, and the doctor was happy with the results.  We had to do the test for Group B Strep.  That was a little painful since nothing has really been down in that area in awhile.  Then I had the big talk with the doctor about all the things that can go wrong during birth.  I was not interesting in hearing all about tearing, C-sections, and blood loss.  I guess it’s a standard thing so that they can’t be sued for not telling patients all the risks.  I had to sign some paper afterwards stating that I heard and understood the risks.  It was a bit of a downer.  I understand that they have an obligation to inform their patients, but I felt nervous afterwards!  I have another visit next week, so hopefully I’ll get good results from the strep test.
